To follow up on
this post, here is how the cot is joined to our bed after one of the railing has been removed.
Every night, I push the cot close to our bed. I put the brakes on for the cot, place a chair between the other side of the cot and the wall (to prevent the cot from even making the slightest move away from the bed frame). Then I place 2 bolsters to fill the up the gap between her mattress and our bed frame.
Put 2 more pillows to cushion the gap. (Our bed frame is slightly lower than the standard bed frame. If we got a bed frame with the standard height, it probably would have been leveled with her mattress.)
Normally if she woke up middle of the night, she would roll over, and snuggle beside me.
In the morning, all the bolsters and pillow will be removed, and we'll 'park' her cot against the wall.

sooooo cute! we still have not opened the side of the cot bed yet for ashley. her cot is next to our bed though at nights...
we also put some bolster and pillows to join the cot to our bed... to bad the little guy still dun wanna sleep in his cot... sigh!
will try harder once he's off breastfeeding :)
Oooo, she is nicely sleeping in her cot already. :) I think I want to do that to bb too.
The problem is we just changed our bed frame to a certain direction and there isn't a wall behind if I put his cot beside mine. Got to find a solution...
I'm so excited reading this! Maybe I can do the same to his existing cot which we're using as a storage space. But I'm not sure if he wants to sleep in there.
Thought about it, but Justin very "lan fan", the cot is too small for him. So I placed a mattress on the floor, just beside my bed, and put pillows on all the sides in case he rolls off the mattress. He's been sleeping there for 2 months, so far no problem except a few nights when we need to sleep there with him or he's climbing up the bed with us.
Have to save our bed for baby's arrival, it's so much easier to co-sleep as I'm gonna breastfeed baby later.
Hehe..so cute! :)
Somehow i just got abit paranoid about the gap...will it give way huh?? See, i'm really one worrisome mummy...;p
hmmm... how do you get up and go to the loo in the middle of the night? push the cot away or climb over your snoozing hubby? hehehe!
she sleep so "lumm"...
Oh! So this is IT! Good. So little Zara can be real close to Mom and Dad.
I tried that when Qi Ning was abt 5 mths old but she always managed to roll down and stick to me. We gave up the cot and let her co-sllep with us. Only abt two weeks ago, I put a mattress next to our bed and let her sleep there but most of the night, mummy end up sleeping with her. sigh!
I'll try to dismantle the sliding side of the cot n see whether Keith will sleep in it or not.
Mom2Ashley,
If she's fine sleeping on her own.. you don't have to bother.
Zara just refused to sleep on her own.. so that's my best alternative.
egghead,
Yeah.. if breastfeeding, it's easier to be on the same bed..
Allyfeel,
Wah.. fong-shui ah? Change bed position?
If your cot breaks are good, then no problem la.. Ours quite che-kai.. the cot still can move even when the breaks are on.
Btw, you still didn't tell me, your cot also from SafeNSound?
Sesame,
No harm trying really. :P
Btw, he's still 'small' enough to fit the cot?
Shoppingmum,
Yeah for your case, your bed space have to reserve for coming baby.. As long as Justin is happy sleeping on the matress it's o.k.
Blurblur,
I was worried too.. always checking in the night to see if the gap will increase in the night.. The chair that is between the cot and wall would not allow the cot to slide.. but still.. we always worry.. :P
May,
The section at my feet is not barred, so I will sneak to the loo from there. :P
Domestic,
Yes.. close to me actually.. She doesn't care if Daddy is close by or not.. :P
Contented Mum,
Yea, when Zara is awake, she rolls to our side too.. but still most part of the night, we have the bed to ourselves and she has her own bed.
It's good that Qi Ning is sleeping in her little mattress..
Sabrina,
Tell us if it works.
Haha...got a msater to come and see the house a while ago. :)
The bed is a gift from MIL, I think they got it from Mid Valley.
Looks like a good idea. Just wonder if Harvynna will go back to her cot. Currently, she sleeps on the mattress but ends up climbing onto our bed at about4.00am!
now she just 'rolls-over'...saves u the hassle of having to get up and carry her to the bed.
Allyfeel,
Aha, after you realligned the bed.. love life improves huh (based on the posts about the romantic hubby).
Hmom,
I think she'll also creep to your bed if you put her in the cot.. :P
King's Wife,
Yeah.. and if I want to, I just roll her back to her cot. :P
And the lotus seeds? Aiyo.... :-)
Nevertheless, nice engineering!!
Cool arrangement. I guess Zara doesn't roll so much when she is asleep. Emily does, her leg will end up on my face.
lol... sleeping arrangement?? Wow, that is so exciting.... just the right setting to get you in the mood to go write Chapter 7!! You've just been tagged!! lol
How nice to have her sleeping right beside you. Gordon's stuck to me like a leech during bedtime. Wonder what kind of sleeping arrangement i'll make when Malcolm's around. Still no idea to date
Hey! That's the same bed/sleep arrangement (ie. the pillows and the sidecar arrangements) we have with Nikita! :)
wow..cool...must see if it works for me also...but only for a short time since #2 is coming soon...still thinking where to put her to sleep
baby cot? we had two last time, but they sleep for three months, I packed it up.
your method of packing the cot is really an idea way to co-sleep with the kid, too bad I can't park at a time on one side, wake up and pick up them for breastfeed was a horrible history.
is this your continuation of helen's chapter? waaa very interesting man. got little girl, got bed, got mattress..phew!!
We tried it once, but the cot was too high and we were afraid that he might fall in between.
Good that she is sleeping on her own.
We need to wean them off the bed too. No place oredi..
We just weaned Ophelia from her sarong! Phew!
On second look, I think cannot leh. He is too "long" for the cot liao. Think must go get another single bed instead.
Brad's cot actually attached to our bed with the same height and no obvious gap in btw. we have the cot against the wall and pushed the bed to the cot- hence, the cot is unmovable. that will do for now until we move him out of the room.
ehmmm...lil zara looks comfortable in her cot.
